Bodegas and Vendits
The Lifeblood of The Street
When you need a smash, a pack of kibble, or a cheap pistol at 3 AM, you don’t go to a mall. You hit the corner bodega or the nearest vendit.
🏪 Bodegas
A Bodega is a small corner store or market. It’s the 2045 equivalent of a 7-11 but grittier, armored, and often the center of neighborhood gossip.
Characteristics
- Owner: Usually a local fixture (grumpy retiree, bored teenager, or overly friendly auntie).
- Stock: Cheap and Everyday items. Alcohol, kibble, prepak items, basic tech.
- Atmosphere: A bodega is never just a store. It’s a neutral ground, a DMZ, or a trap depending on the owner’s reputation.
- Security: Behind the counter is usually bulletproof glass and a shotgun.
Random Bodega Encounters (d6)
- Maternal granny treating you like family.
- Bad-tempered retiree who hates your face.
- Bored yo-ganger shackled to the register by parents.
- Overly friendly clerk trying to hit on you.
- Total stoner saying “Whatever, man…”
- Arguing middle-aged owner who serves you while yelling at someone else.
🤖 Vendits
Vendits are automated vending machines found on street corners, in subway stations, and lobbies.
Mechanics
- Payment: CredChip only. No cash.
- Security: Thick Steel cover (SP 25 typically) and often an Automated Turret (Flamethrower) for “anti-vandalism”.
- Stock: Random assortment. You pay, and the machine dispenses.
