🏭 Santo Domingo District
“Night City’s engine room. We keep the lights on and the factories running — and nobody thanks us for it.”
Santo Domingo is the industrial heart of Night City. Originally the southern part of Heywood , the poorer residents started calling their neighborhood “Santo Domingo” to distinguish themselves from the wealthier north. Now the name is official — a sprawling industrial zone that powers the city and houses the workers who make everything run.

📜 History
Before the War: South Heywood
Santo Domingo was originally part of Heywood , which straddled the east side of Del Coronado Bay between Rancho Coronado and North Oak . While North Heywood had comfortable housing and the upscale Apple Valley corporate subdivision, the south was different:
Area Character North Heywood Biotechnica employees, nice suburbs South Heywood Factories, workers, cheaper housing
The bland industrial parks dotted the hills — Arasaka Arms factories, Biotechnica research stations, EBM storage facilities. So many facilities that even the Heywood City Council didn’t know all their names.
The Name Change
After the War, southern residents started calling the area “Santo Domingo” — a declaration of independence from the wealthier north. The name stuck. Now it’s official, even if maps still sometimes say “South Heywood.”
